Resolving workplace disputes
Debra Roth, Partner, Shaw Bransford & Roth P.C., wrote the article, "Resolving Workplace Disputes" for the October edition of Federal Times. Her article also appears on the Federal Times website under the "Ask the Lawyer" blog.
Read an excerpt of the article below:
Too often, one side or the other pre-judges the intentions of the other side and believes that “coming to the table” will not resolve anything and just be a sign of weakness. If you think there may be some value in attempting an early resolution, having a dialogue may be informative. Alternative dispute resolution can also be a vehicle to repair and build trust, which may lead to a resolution, or may help to minimize the risk of a reprisal-like complaint. You may not actually resolve the dispute on the table, but you may reduce the tension, emotion and risk of a reprisal complaint by having a civil and candid conversation. All of that is good for the workplace.
